Lolita talking here!!
There are some mistakes in the way people see lolita... Here I come to clear some stuff...
"Mini to knee length frilly poofy skirts, most likely with a crinoline that does not show under it."
WRONG: A mini skirt is SO not lolita AT ALL... The standard yes lolita skirt is knee length or two fingers above in the case of erololita, if someone wears a frilly poofy mini skirt, she might as well be seen like a whore by most real lolitas...
"Ruffled elegant Victorianesque blouses."
Not always, for casual lolita, you can wear any pretty, girly blouse, most of the time, with a crown or some "princess-ish" drawing
"Mostly black blouses sometimes with white Peter Pan collars, cuffs and sleeves. White lace can be at the bottom of the capped sleeves and at the collar. "
You can use white blouses in gothic lolita, yes you can ^^ No cuffs please! They are mostly cosplay and not many lolitas wear them... Lace must be pretty and have good quality, because if not, it will look really cosplay-ish ._.
"Both plain or embellished blouses."
Yes yes, and they come in handy when it's cold and you wanna wear that SUPER pretty jumperskirt ^^
"Babydoll dresses, sometimes below the knee but mostly mini to knee length."
Again, wrong! Babydoll dresses must be knee lenght or two fingers above, like I said, mini skirts are NOT LOLITA!
"Colors for these separates are mostly black or white or a combination of both. Sometimes red, pastel pink, and pastel blue. The later two colors worn only with white."
Red, pastel pink, pastel blue and pastel colors in general are for SWEET lolita, not goth lolita, there is a difference between sweet lolita and goth lolita, like there is a difference between goth lolita and kuro (black) lolita, the pic you posted was black lolita, not goth lolita...
"The French Maid look or Alice in Wonderland look of a white apron over a black babydoll dress was an original Gothic Lolita look. It is not seen as much now."
The french maid look is for cosplay and lolitas do NOT like to look like french maids, the point in being lolita is largely inspired by Victorian children's clothing and the elaborate costumes of the Rococo period. Also, the Alice in Wonderland look is an original SWEET LOLITA look, if a sweet lolita does not have something Alice related, she can so NOT consider herself as a sweet lolita...
"These dresses and skirts are worn with knee-high or thigh high stockings. "
With ruffle, please... And mostly knee-high.
"Some times white with little bows and ruffles at the top or in black fishnet with holes and without. Mostly black opaque stocking material."
Yes, yes, little bows, ruffles, cherries, berries... NEVER black fishnet, the point is looking cute and childlike, not gothic-ish that's the erololita style... And no holes, please... Those will make you look like a slut in front of other lolitas...
"Headdresses are a must. Mostly in black or black and white. A small rectangular headband headdress made of ruffles, ribbons, and lace. Can be worn with a bow under the chin. It is worn at the crown of the head, just above where bangs are. Can be used to hold hairpieces in."
Also, you can have a hime cut, if you have one, you already have a hair ornament... You can also use Alice bows that are also a must in lolita, gothic lolita, sweet lolita and all kinds of lolita, and beside headdresses and mini hats...
"Sometimes the headpiece can extend over the forehead like a small bonnet, this happens most often in white."
And most often in sweet lolita...
A small top hat worn askew on the head is sometimes seen.
"Shoes are Mary Jane type platform heels or large platform shoes. Very chunky and clog-like."
Nope... Mary Janes must not have a high platform, but a small, discrete platform, large platform shoes are only used by Elegant Gothic Lolitas (The fashion created by Mana-Sama) and the chunky and clog-like shoes are the Rocking Horse shoes, and they are not THAT big and chunky, very comfortable and really created for punks more than for lolita...
"Women wear long or short large curls on either side of the head, or a full head of curls ala Shirley Temple."
Not always, in hime cut you must have straight hair, and also people decide the kind or haistyle they wanna have, a very big and curly hairstyle is not a must, but it'll make you look more like a cute doll
"Long straight hair worn sometimes with bangs is a common look as well. Many wear wigs and hairpieces to achieve these looks. Hair is mostly black but can be any shade of brown or pale blonde."
Nope, lolita do NOT dye their hair and do NOT wear wigs, it is cosplay-ish and so not classy, normally, the hair must be dark or sweet brown, never use wigs unless your hair is really ruined... And if your hair is naturally blonde, it will be better, blonde lolitas is what we need ^^
"Little to no make-up is worn. The look requires a pale complexion, Any shade of red lipstick is fine with black eyelashes and a small amount of black eyeliner. Fresh faced and young."
Not pale complexion... You must look like a porcelain doll or a sweet, small child, no red lipstick, please, and no black eyelashes and black eyeliner, please, some gray shade and lip gloss will be all right...
"Large pocketbooks are carried. Some are huge container-like suitcases in a variety of forms from the carpetbag to the circular hatbox.
Some women carry handbags in the shape of bats and coffins.
A parasol is a must on sunny days in the park.
On occasion lace gloves and lace opera length arm warmers complete this look."
Arm warmers are no-no's in lolita fashion... They are more visual kei or gothic than lolita... About the bags, they can also be little poodle dog bags, hearts, bunnies and crowns...
"When the look begins to lean towards Victorian mourning, with long dresses and ghouly make-up, it is Visual Kei or Gothic and not Gothic Lolita. But the elegant Victorian look with a long skirt is still Lolita."
Victorian look with a long skirt is more clasic or aristocrat than lolita, the point in lolita, like I said, is to look like a young girl, and most of the time, young girls wear short, knee length skirts...
