Sometimes it seems like all the different goth doll lines influence each other (except for LAD's), like BEG Storm has eyes kind of like LDD Sadie's (one white, one black) and shortly after the BEG's came out LDD started making fashion dolls, too (FV's). Also, it seems like LDD Dollies came out shortly after Krypt Kiddies picked up in popularity (maybe right after they started being mass-produced?).
Has anyone else noticed anything like this? Like how Abcynthia (beg) and Arachne (LDD) both have spiders on their faces/in their eyes or Nurse Necro (ldd) and Nurse Hypochondrianna (beg)? There seem to be reoccuring themes.

hmm that's interesting. the thing with the eyes though could go back to marilyn manson and if you go along that theme then the X's on sadie's forehead go back to the real manson family and that sadie and so on.
I think that it could just be running themes. nurses and spiders are a popular theme. it's interesting though to see what the brands do with common themes that might be produced you know?

lol, fallen. ok so far we have three THEMES : manson, spider, and nurse. are there any others? too bad there is not a reoccuring (sp?) gothic ballerina theme, i'd like to see what beg would do with that. also i noticed a bunny baby bunting theme with the kk's which reminds me of eggy (and vice versa) so maybe that is 4? anything i missed? there is still also the 'coincidence' of an ldd fashion and baby line coinciding with 2 other goth fashion/baby lines from other companies.

I'd imagine when it comes to different lines like that, it's done purposelly [is that a word?] to try and out-sell the competition you know? like oh well this person is coming out with that, so we'll do this and see how many we can sell!
I thought of another: the whole lolita/dolly look. which is odd to say for a doll, but you know like the little girl dresses and such. that's so popular at the moment, along with victorian or other retro things *psycho-billies, arachne and the such] I can't think of any other brands that have done it since I stick to LDDs.

There have been a lot of Goth style toys coming out over the last three years. At least were I am I have not seen any of the BeGoths past series 2 available in stores. Being a toy collector for many years, I can say that the first big mainstream Goth toy (besides various Sandman stuff - which is still underground in my opinion) was LDDs. Although, with so many similarities now it's hard to figure out who is influencing who. One option might just be that it's the Goth scene in general.
I know one thing for sure (I get in trouble for this all the time), I wish there would be more than 8 LDDs released a year and more available in the online store.
I would be very happy to see LDDs done in the Gothic Lolita look, but that sort of thing doesn't seem to sell or at least that's the way it comes across on the official message board. The talk there seems to lean more on the gore.
All said though, the BeGoth large dolls seem to have better quality outfits.

hmm I don't mind the gory ones, but I don't gravitate towards them either. as far as my own collection goes, the only "gross" ones that I have are deadbra ann & angus litlerot and with angus you can't even see his face unless you take the bag off so technically he's not that bad.
that's always the argument I have with people who see them, when they squeal "they're so gross! how can you look at them?!" well because the majority of mine aren't gross, a little bloody here and there but for the most part they just come off as wee ones gone evil ;D
I'm not sure if gothic lolita was the term I meant to use, but like mildread, jill from jack & jill, the way their dresses are styled and the stripey stockings *whether they be real or painted on* is another thing a lot of the female "goth" dolls have.

It is kind of like when Mattel came out with "My Scene" dolls to compete with Bratz. ITA that Maggot, Mildread and some of the others do seem a touch Lolita - schooltime Sadie too. Maybe even Cookie a little bit. They have that whole little schoolgirl thing going on, even if they are not that frilly. priestmatthias - i get most of my beg's online and their clothes are definitely better quality- i have to admit i have started to favor them over the LDD's, especially bec I usually get better quality for a lower price. It kind of makes me sad, but I was really turned off when LDD had those serious quality issues that lasted for what seemed like almost 2 years. Quality seems to be picking up again (loved and bought s10), but it is not really the same for me anymore. I am only interested in Kill Baby from s11 so far. I did get mini Jeepers, though - still love the minis, even if they are extinct.
