This poem is dedicated to Mathew Crothers.
Flight of The Eagle The heavens open with an outpouring of rain, Drenching, (again,) the tear stained faces of family left behind. Gathered together, they stand, in a pool of misery and remorse, Hearts shared in a single beat of sorrow.
He did not want it this way.
Brilliant in mind, and brave at heart, With the free spirit of an eagle. Dancing and calling to his brothers, the clouds. Wings open to the wind in a playful embrace.
This is where he can experience true happiness.
Yet the pain of loved ones adds weight to his flight, Tearing him down, breaking his wings. Binding him to the earth, forever. Spirit once posessed, now is no longer.
To stay bound to the earth is his only fear.
The ending of his life, should begin a new chapter, Yet the page can’t be turned until the last heart is mended, Until then, his wings won’t repair, let him fly away, So he stays in darkness, bound by endless nights.
Until they grieve no longer.
