Cradle arent black metal any more, they're extreme gothic.
Emperor are brilliant, as are Dimmu Borgir. Darkthrone are good but get a bit repetative after a while.
As for death metal, Morbid Angel kick ass, as do Decapitated.

as I've really got into black metal over the past few months.
Have to say, the best bands are Dark Funeral, 1349, Behemoth, Darkthrone, Anaal Nathrakh, Emperor, Nattefrost. There are loads more amazing black metal bands out there though. I just feel those few deserve a special mention.

My favourite BM bands at the moment are Secrets Of The Moon, Sear Bliss, Vesperian Sorrow, Forest Silence, Thus Defiled, Devilish Impressions, Morgul and Handful Of Hate.

Wow, LOOKIE, it's a BLACK METAL THREAD! I like it!  My metal roots are firmly planted in Black Metal, with bands like Emperor, Mayhem, Immortal and such. For newer bands who proudly walk in the path made for them by bands like the ones named above, check out Carpathian Forest, The One, Marduk, Frost, Anaal Nathrakh, Lord Belial, Behexen...oh I could go on forever. Cradle Of Filth were NEVER really true, honest black metal, but they still fall under that catergory in my opinion. Their material after Midian hasn't been worth shit in my opinion, but there is a place in the World for melodic Black metal. I just feel that Dimmu are way better at it. (My Black Metal roots have been mingled with other metal sub genres now, and while I still LOVE BM, I'm a bit of a death/thrash/speed/heavy metaller these days) ROCK ON! |
